It's refreshing to see MAC release a completely new lip product for a change. I mean, I do like their lipsticks and lipglasses, but these are pretty much in every single collection, right? So to me, trying out this new Patentpolish Lip Pencil was definitely more exciting than yet another new shade of lipglass. (Although, there are new and shiny lipglasses coming out this summer as well!)
Compared to lipsticks I actually like the formula of Patentpolish better. It's a hybrid of lipstick and gloss. Which means it's easy to apply, feels lightweight on lips, but has full coverage at the same time. And it looks creamy on lips. The only minus is that it doesn't stay on as long as a lipstick.
The rounded off tip may seem like it's a mess to apply, but it was surprisingly easy and anyone could adjust to it. I guess MAC just wanted to be a little bit different, since many brands have launched similar products earlier this year.
Also, these are twist-up pencils, so no need to look for a sharpener!
'Patentpink' is described as washed out lilac and has a cool undertone. The color reminds me of MAC Lipstick in 'Snob'. So if you are a lipstick person you might want to check that out instead.
In conclusion, I will definitely wear this product over the summer. I prefer a casual easy-to-apply lip product (lipgloss, lip tint, etc.) to a lipstick any time and the color is different from the tones I have been using so far, too.
MAC released 12 shades of Patentpolish Lip Pencil. Available in Europe from May 2014. They retail for $20 at maccosmetics.com, but cost a bit more outside US. They are limited edition, so if you want one, grab it fast.
EDIT: MAC Patentpolish Lip Pencils are now permanent! (As of July 2015)
Have you already seen them in store? Would you give Patentpolish a try?
