DAENG GI MEO RI Oriental Luxury Shampoo

I'm not very picky when it comes to shampoos, so I'm not really sure how to review one. However, I do appreciate a good looking shampoo bottle in my bathroom. This black & gold design definitely looks nice, don't you think? Yet the most interesting thing about this shampoo would be it's color!

A huge thanks to  BNT News  for providing me the product featured in this review. As always, my opinion is 100% my own and was not influenced by the company or free product provided. For more information, see my full disclosure  here.

It has a beautiful caramel brown shade. Honestly, I don't think I've ever used a brown colored shampoo before! It also smells like oriental herbs, which is surprisingly pleasant.

The description on the package is all in Korean, but I did manage to find some information about the brand & the product online + BNT news sent me a short description of all the products too.

Daeng Gi Meo Ri of Doori Cosmetics is a brand established in 1998 and has been leading the herbal hair product industry in Korea for over 10 years. I also learned that oriental herbal shampoos are very popular in South-Korea, right now.

At first I thought Asian shampoos can't possibly be very different from the ones we use over here. However, after doing some research I found out that the focal point of Asian hair care actually centers on the scalp. Scalp skin also secretes sebum, ages, and loses elasticity, so the quality and health of the hair that grows from your scalp is affected by the health of the scalp. Issues like hair loss, grey hair, decrease in luster, etc. are all related to scalp aging. (Smart talk copied from asian beauty forum @ reddit)

After reading that I finally fully understood the product description that was sent to me.
  • DAENG GI MEO RI Oriental Luxury Shampoo contains more than 35% of ripe and enriched medicinal ingredients as well as a patented substance extracted from lily.
  • Full of vitamins and minerals, its marine phyto-complex protects scalp with caulerpa racemosa extracts, antioxidative chlorella and deeply moisturizes with fermented Pseudoalteromonas.
  • Wilfordii root, false daisy and hazelnut extracts give energy and vitality to tired and dry scalp.
  • It contains keratine and camelia to treat damaged scalp from within and reinforce its elasticity. It uses natural surfactant so it does not irritate skin.

Honestly, when I first read it all, I was puzzled - why is there so much talk about scalp? I do get it now, though!

So, apart from the obvious - washing your hair - this shampoo also takes care of your hair's health by treating your scalp.

Unfortunately, I haven't been using the shampoo for long enough to give you an actual review whether it has improved the health of my hair or not, but I do have faith in this product. It does a great job washing my hair, though & like it's scent. :)

The shampoo came in a 500ml + 145ml value pack. I think it's a smart idea to offer a travel sized shampoo with a 500ml bottle. It would be quite troublesome to bring the big one with you when going somewhere. But you can easily bring the small 145ml one.

Lastly, if you are curious & want to try the set for yourself, you can purchase it from Ebay here ($31 + shipping) or from Amazon here ($43 + free shipping).

Have you had any experience with Asian hair care?

    1. You're welcome! I don't think it includes ginseng (as it wasn't mentioned in the English description I received), but it does include other ingredients from Chinese traditional medicine. I love the scent! Don't know which country you live in, but if you ever see them in store, try to have a sniff! :D
