COSRX OIL-FREE Ultra-Moisturizing Lotion (with Birch Sap)

This brand has become extremely popular among Asian beauty enthusiasts. I've also been eyeing their products for some time. However, what's interesting is that despite being a Korean brand, COSRX seems to be more popular outside Korea. For example, their official instagram account mostly receives comments in English. And I guess there's nothing wrong with that.

Description: Hydrates, protects and comforts the skin with an oil-free lightweight formula. Contains 70% birch sap and exclusive ultra moisturizing ingredients.

How to use: Prep the skin with toner and apply a thin layer before moisturizing.

Size: 100ml

Ingredients: Betula Platyphylla Japonica Juice (70%), Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Dimethicone, Betaine, Cetearyl Alcohol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Cetearyl Olivate, Sorbitan Olivate, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Sodium Lactate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Sodium Hyaluronate, Allantoin, Panthenol, Xanthan Gum, Ethyl Hexanediol, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Peel Oil, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil. I've been using this lotion day and night before applying Kicho Sheep Oil Cream. It's less heavy than a face cream & sinks in fast, but feels quite soothing and moisturizing at the same time. I'm also loving it's fresh scent, which is a mixture of tea tree & lemon, I think?

I like to apply a heavier face cream afterwards to seal in all the moisture, but I think this lotion could potentially be used alone too. It doesn't include as many occlusive agents as a face cream, but in the end it's a matter of preference and I don't always find it necessary to apply a rich moisturizer later.

In conclusion, this is a wonderful lightweight moisturizer that can be used before applying a heavier one or maybe layer it on alone, if you don't like using thick face creams.

  1. Well, we certainly do seem to be on the same page as far as products of interest lately!

I received a full-size sample of this from Cupidrop a month or so ago as thanks for helping them to develop a "short and sweet" men's AB routine, that just so happens to include this. I did not ask for – nor did I expect – such largesse from them for doing this. I looked upon it as a “public service” for the males of the species. It is on their web site and blog. I surely hope that at least a few men will find it to be appealing and take up an AB routine. They (and their SOs!) will be much the better for it.

So, I've been "test driving" this emulsion for about the past month, mainly as a daytime "moisturizer" when it's warm (sort of) outside. I usually don't use a cream during the day unless it’s very cold outside. I must say this is a very nice, light emulsion. Sunscreen and (when I indulge) BB or CC creams apply quite nicely and quite evenly over it, as it sinks right into my combo-oily skin after application with no greasy residue. I also don’t get an “oil slick” 4 hours later when I use this emulsion. So, I think it will work well for me during the warm/humid summer months ahead.

I quite like the scent as well, though it does dissipate fairly quickly. I would describe the scent as “fresh” with perhaps some “woodsy” undertones, though that may very well be because I am being too heavily influenced by the fact that it contains birch sap. I would definitely say that the scent is one that a man might like, though it certainly would not be a turn-off for women either.

Just like most CosRx, it is well-priced, reasonably effective, and has gender-neutral packaging. That’s why I recommended this emulsion (thus avoiding the “M” – for moisturizer – word) as the hydrating step for Cupidrop’s “short and sweet” mini-AB routine for men.

    1. I need to check out that "short and sweet" routine, although I probably wouldn't order from an US retailer. My boyfriend usually tries every skin care product I have with me and he also found sheep oil cream to be a bit too heavy for him. He loves this Cosrx lotion though!

Oh, and I never thought using the word "moisturizer" would be wrong, tho. Maybe it's because English isn't my first language, but I just thought moisturizer is the general word used for all lotions, emulsion and face creams?

  2. Amazing post, dear! :) Do you want to follow each other? If yes, please follow me with GFC and Google, instagram, write a comment

    With love.

  3. I really struggle finding moisturisers that aren't too oily, might have to try this out!xx

    1. This is definitely something to consider! I also have an Etude House emulsion, which seems to be oil-free, but I like this COSRX one better. It also has a better scent haha.
