MAC 'Temper Tantrum' Velvetease Lip Pencil

Velvetease Lip Pencil is yet another new permanent lip product range from MAC that was launched here in Europe on February 1st. I've only got 1 shade to swatch, however that's enough for me to be able to tell what these new lip pencils are all about & compare them to other MAC lip products I own.

New Velvetease Lip Pencil delivers the vivid colour impact of a lipstick with the ease of a mechanical pencil…no sharpener required. Go daring in blackened plum, classic red and warm chocolate, or subtly chic in light pinks and buttery nudes. Rich and matte, with a smooth, clean finish.

When I first saw this pencil, I thought it's packaging looks similar to Patentpolish Lip Pencils. (I have reviewed two of these by the way - Patentpink & Ruby.)

However, the new Velvetease Lip Pencils deliver solid matte colors and are highly pigmented while Patentpolish Lip Pencils have a glossy finish with some shades being semi-transparent.

The shade "Temper Tantrum" is so bright, my camera couldn't even photograph it properly.

There's also a size difference between these two. You get 2,3g of product in Patentpolish & 1,5g in Velvetease. When put side-by-side, Velvetease Lip Pencil looks smaller.

Compared to MAC Matte Lipsticks the Velvetease Pencils are a bit softer and easier to apply. The formula is quite similar in terms of longevity, but less drying. However, you should keep in mind that these lip pencils have very little product in them. (1,5g compared to 3g). Neverthless, if you like matte colors, you should consider giving them a try!

The shade "Temper Tantrum" is a bright orange coral, It's been a while since I wore something so bright on my lips, but I was surprised to find out it suits me rather well.

MAC Velvetease Lip Pencils are available online at NordstromDillards & maccosmetics.com. The suggested retail price for European stores and counters is 22€

  1. I really love bright orange-y-red lips~ They're such a different statement from a bright red lip. I think these lip pencils are so great for throwing in your purse when you're on the go!

  2. Most matte lipstick end up drying the lips but these somehow look hydrating. Is it only an illusion or do they moisturize too? If they do, I need to get one right away!

    1. I don't think they actually moisturize, but they aren't drying either! :)
