AB Skin Care Starter Pack for Combination Skin

Last week I published a simple Asian Beauty Skin Care Starter Pack Under $100, which I created without actually having any specific skin type in mind. I was simply browsing for reasonably priced products and did some ingredient analysis to find potentially best ones for each category.

However, one of my lovely readers asked me to create a similar kit for combination skin, so I decided to accept the challenge, because I really enjoyed making the first one anyway.

You should keep in mind, though, that this is just a sample kit of products to consider. I am not a licensed skin care expert nor will everything work the same for everyone, so before purchasing and using any of these products, do your research. See if the ingredients are suitable for your skin and patch test the products if necessary.

1. Oil Cleanser: Kose Softymo Speedy Cleansing Oil. (Ingredients)
As always, double cleansing is the key to happier skin and effectively removes both oil soluble and water soluble dirt. Kose Softymo Speedy Cleansing Oil has a very short & clean ingredient list. Only possible acne trigger it contains is jojoba oil. However, this shouldn't be a problem, as this is something you wash off anyway. It might be a good idea to avoid jojoba oil in serums and face creams, though. Especially if clogged pores and acne is something that concerns you.

2. Gentle low pH cleanser: COSRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser. (Ingredients)
Everyone can benefit from a low pH cleanser, however I believe the pH of your cleanser is especially important if you have oily skin. Harsh cleansers can trigger skin to increase oil production, so make sure your cleanser has a skin friendly pH.

3. Mild Chemical Exfoliant: COSRX BHA Blackhead Power Liquid. (Ingredients)
This is a mild chemical exfoliant that also helps to unclog and reduce the appearance of pores by dissolving oil-soluble dirt.

4. Sheet masks: My Scheming Sheet Masks
Another good way to target combo acne-prone skin is, of course, sheet masking! Tawanese sheet masks seem to be very popular right now, so I'd recommend giving these alcohol-free sheet masks a try. Choose a flavour that would specifically target your skin issues like "Deep Cleansing Pore Minimizing Mask" or "Herbal Anti-Acne".

5. Light Moisturizer: COSRX Oil-Free Ultra Moisturizing Lotion(Ingredients)
This is slowly turning into an ode to COSRX, but I can't help it. This lightweight Oil-Free Ultra Moisturizing Lotion might be exactly what your combination skin needs. It provides enough hydration without feeling greasy, so it's suitable for all skin types.

6. Sunscreen: Biore UV AQUA Rich Watery Essence SPF50+ PA++++. (Ingredients)
Because you still need sunscreen no matter what your skin type is. :)

7. Sleeping Pack: Nature Republic Aloe Vera 92% Soothing Gel. (Ingredients)
Lastly, I was struggling to find a sleeping pack that would also control oil production, but I realized the anwser was pretty much sitting next to me the whole time - the aloe gel I just recently featured! It's oil-free, silicone-free, absorbs very quickly and helps to soothe and heal skin. What is more, regular use of aloe vera can also reduce excess oil. Although it is not as heavy as sleeping packs usually are, it's a great gel that you can slap on pretty much anytime you feel like.

Total: $75.68 + additional $1.80 for each sheet mask you get.

Have you tried any of these products? If yes, share your opinion! :)

  2. More skincare stuff I'm eventually going to have to try!
I have acne prone skin that used to be oily but is more dry/normal than anything now! So I'll definitely get some of these on my wishlist to try! Of course, the sheet masks are appealing to me to try at somepoint!

    1. That's good to hear, Jasmine! Do you think you can name any specific products that helped you with that? :)

    2. The stuff I bought quite recently has helped quite a lot! My acne is moreso hormonal (since it's on the sides of my jaw/chin) so there's not too much I can do! But sheet masks and I noticed recently doing a sleeping mask helps a MASSIVE amount! So that will be something I keep using to try and sort that issue out :D

  3. Love the Nature Republic aloe, it's by my bedside everytime for an all rounder to help with dryness/acne/inflammation <3 I haven't tried any of the COSRX products you mentioned here but I do have the AHA/BHA exfoliating toner and it works like a treat - definitely one of my staples in my routine... I'd say 9/10 products in my routine are AB products and that makes me super happy about it because it really reacts well with my skin (maybe cause i'm also asian l o l) and definitely have come a long way since I was a acne-prone kiddo...

One of my friends who has oily skin recommended the Klairs soothing face mask and it actually works for all skin type and I agree - I am IN LOVE with it!

Wow this was a long comment ;-)

    1. No problem! I love long comments the most! At least if they are somewhat on topic and provide interesting information. :) I haven't tried the Klairs masks, but I have seen them around and I'm intrigued!

  4. I think those kind of "starter packs" are a good idea, and a good kind of articles ^^ You should consider doing it for the other types of skins as well :)
