Welcome Summer With MAC Versicolour Stains! + SWATCHES

Leave it to MAC to create a lipgloss stain that comes in 16 beautiful shades and makes Korean lip tints, with their 6 color options, look extremely boring for comparsion.

Don't get me wrong, I do like Korean lip stains. However, I think we can all agree that their shade selection looks nothing like this:

MAC Versicolour Stain is a new permanent liquid lip color range that MAC released in spring 2016, however this gloss/stain hybrid would also be perfect for summer.

The shades I have are called "Tattoo My Heart" which is a bright pinky coral and "Can't Stop Won't Stop" which is an intense warm orange that sets to a reddish-orange on lips. They do look quite similar, however there's a small difference in their performance.

Both shades have a highly pigmented gel-like formula which provides a glossy finish that doesn't feel tacky. You only need to apply a thin layer to change the color of your lips, which makes them great lightweight and fuss-free lip products. They also don't feel as drying as some Korean lip tints I've tried previously.

However, I found that if you apply a thick coat "Tattoo My Heart" tends to gather into lip lines, while "Can't Stop Won't Stop" doesn't. At least not that noticeably. So I guess some shades of this formula perform a bit better than others. Although Tattoo My Heart still looks pretty good, especially if you remember to apply a thin layer.

I personally love how these stains look like gel instead of gloss and I've been using both, but I find that I actually tend to use Tattoo My Heart more often despite the minor lip line issue.

In terms of longevity, they are like any other lip stain on the market - the glossy finish fades off after a while, but the pigment stays on for hours.

Lastly, these seem to have a bit different and stronger scent than MAC lip products usually do. It's still a lovely fragrance, but not the typical MAC vanilla I'm used to.

Where to buy? MAC Versicolour Stain is one of MAC's permanent collections and can be bought at MAC counters and stores or online at Nordstrom and maccosmetics.com. The suggested retail price in Estonia is 27,5€.

Have you tried these? If not, which shade would you pick?

  1. These colours are both gorgeous but I love Tattoo My Heart the most! I have such a love for pinky coral type colours and it suits your skintone so well! I had a look on the Mac website and I think I would buy Truly Everlasting! I'm really a budget buyer when it comes to make up and I hate spending more than £10 on one product but I've been wanting to try Mac for a while so this may be what I end up trying from them!

    1. To be honest, I also like Tattoo My Heart better and I don't really mind that it settles into lip lines, although I totally managed to take a photo that shows this feature the best possible way haha. :D
Truly Everlasting looks like a nice shade too! I think it could be an interesting purchase, especially since I know you usually wear Korean lip tints. All the comparsion posts you could do...(surely I'm not the only blogger who always sees a new post opportunity every time they purchase something??? :D)

  2. Sometimes formulation changes by colour so it's understandable! I'm sure there are ways about it, I have a few lipsticks that do that and I end up using a lip scrub before hand which helps!
I think it would definitely be fun to do a comparison between Korean and Western lip tints! I always see a post opportunity whenever I buy stuff, sometimes I buy stuff for the sake of having something to blog about :p

    1. I don't think it's really that noticeable. I don't normally apply such a thick layer either! :D

And I knew I can't be the only one!! Ah yes, the good old "I don't need it, but I should buy it for my blog" excuse, haha.

    1. Ooh, which shade did you get? I think the packaging is quite unique, maybe not as interesting as some MAC limited edition ones, though! I do like the gel-like finish, hopefully I'll get to see how yours looks too! :)

  6. These look great on you! I'm not a crazy big fan, I have a red one myself but I prefer something a little more matte. However I love their staying power!

    1. If you prefer matte, then you'd probably love their Matte Liquid Lipsticks! Do you have any? :)
