Most of us look forward to warmer weather and summer holidays. The sun can be good for your skin, but it can also be problematic. If you’re looking for ways to boost your complexion and achieve a radiant glow this summer, look no further. Here are some skin saviours to invest in before you jet off on holiday.

This is the most important skincare investment you can make this summer. Sunlight has benefits for your skin, but it can also cause long-term damage. Exposure to harmful UV rays contributes to premature ageing, burning and skin damage. If you’re going on holiday or you’re heading out on a sunny day, always apply cream. Go for a high factor if you burn easily. Reapply your cream throughout the day. This is particularly important if you’re swimming or sweating a lot.

If you dread the thought of going anywhere without makeup, the prospect of baring all on the beach may be daunting. If you’re not confident about your skin, don’t panic. There are some excellent complexion make up products out there for summer. When it’s hot, you don’t want heavy products on your face. Swap powder foundation for liquid or go for a BB cream or tinted moisturiser. These are lighter products, which won’t clog your pores. You can enjoy the coverage you need, and your skin will be able to breathe. If you have clear skin, but you have a couple of problem areas, use a small amount of concealer instead of applying products all over your face.

Drinking water is important at any time of the year. But it’s particularly beneficial in the summer. If you’re sweating in the heat, your body is losing fluid. You need to increase your intake of water to replace this lost liquid and stay hydrated. Drinking water helps to keep your skin looking bright and healthy and feeling soft.

If you’re on holiday and you’re applying sunscreen every day, it’s essential to cleanse your skin. Washing or wiping your face removes impurities, dirt and sweat. Never go to bed without removing makeup. This will clog your pores and increase the risk of outbreaks. Cleanse daily, and exfoliate once or twice a week.

Moisturiser nourishes your skin and leaves it feeling soft and smooth. If you’ve been out in the sun all day, moisturiser is essential. Choose a product, which suits your skin type. If you have sensitive skin, avoid perfumed lotions. If you have oily skin, it’s best to choose lighter serums over thick creams.

Summer is great news for those looking forward to time off, sun-drenched days and travelling. But it may be bad news for your skin. The warm weather can increase your risk of dehydration, and make your skin look and feel dry. If you’re eager to enjoy that gorgeous holiday glow, invest in some skin-saving products. Cleanse and moisturise daily, and always apply sunscreen before you go out.

Swap full coverage products for lightweight complexion makeup. This will make your skin look flawless without suffocating it. Don’t forget to drink plenty of water and always take time to remove your makeup before going to sleep.
