The Anti-Aging Benefits Of Microdermabrasion Treatments

If you have been looking for a fast and effective anti-aging skincare treatment then you may have come across the term 'microdermabrasion' in your travels. Administered by licensed skincare practitioners in spas and salons, microdermabrasion is a non-invasive exfoliating treatment which involves spraying micro aluminium oxide crystals across the surface of your face, neck, back or shoulders and then quickly vacuuming them up to remove dry, dead skin cells. This quick and painless process will leave your skin feeling smoother and looking younger.

Therefore, if you have been considering undergoing a revitalising skincare procedure in recent months, then listed below are some of the anti-aging effects of microdermabrasion treatments from which you can stand to benefit;

Quick procedure that delivers rapid results

Given that microdermabrasion can be used directly on the skin without prior preparation or anaesthetics, you will be able to enjoy younger looking skin without having to suffer any of the side effects or recovery time associated with more invasive, surgical skincare procedures.

Despite some minimal redness and dryness in the 24 hours following your microdermabrasion treatment, over the next seven days your skin will feel softer and smoother as your skin becomes more hydrated; thereby equipping you with a quick and painless skincare procedure that delivers rapid and visible results. What's more, microdermabrasion treatments only last between 30 and 60 minutes. In fact, they are often referred to as 'lunch-time procedures'! As a result, you will be able to easily incorporate these highly effective anti-aging skincare treatments within any busy schedule.

Suitable for all skin types

Unfortunately, many invasive skincare procedures such as conventional dermabrasion are deemed unsuitable for people with darker skin, or skin conditions as such as acne, because they can cause skin discolouration or further scarring. As such, many men and women turn to harsher commercial products to get rid of wrinkles, age spots and acne. However, as skincare specialists at TCClinic warn:

"Many individuals strip their skin of its natural oils (by using harsh products) thinking this will deflect acne, however in turn this actually causes the sebaceous glands to compensate by over-producing oil which can lead to further break-outs".

Fortunately, unlike these harsher skincare procedures, microdermabrasion is suitable for all skin types and regular treatments have actually been shown to boost your body's natural moisture levels which can support your skin cells' regeneration processes. In this manner, microdermabrasion is a highly effective and gentle anti-aging skincare treatment that is accessible to all men and women of varying skin types.

Improves your natural skin processes

One of the main benefits of microdermabrasion treatments is the impact that it will have upon your skin's natural anti-aging processes. Due to the fact that microdermabrasion clears away the surface layer of dead skin cells on your face, in addition to any dirt, excess oil or sweat, this efficient exfoliating process will trigger your body's natural skin cell repair systems.

As a 2012 dermatological study explains, in order to delay the aging process, it is important to; "stop the degradation of the skin primary structural constituents, such as collagen, elastin, to prevent the formation of wrinkles". Exfoliating skincare treatments such as microdermabrasion have the ability to "replace the tissue with remodelled skin layers and sometimes spur the formation of new collagen".

In this manner, undertaking regular microdermabrasion treatments can increase the efficiency with which your body produces collagen and elastin; primary compounds which will prevent the onset of fine lines and wrinkles in the long term. Subsequently, by undergoing microdermabrasion treatments on monthly or bi-monthly basis, you can improve the efficiency of your body's own natural anti-aging processes and enjoy softer, smoother, younger looking skin in the long term.

Increases effectiveness of anti-aging serums

In addition to boosting your body's natural anti-aging processes, regular microdermabrasion treatments can also improve the effectiveness of your existing skincare products. As mentioned in the section above, microdermabrasion is a gentle exfoliating treatment which will remove the dead surface skin cells on your face, neck, back and shoulders.

Consequently, by removing surface dead skin cells and clearing clogged pores, your skincare serums, moisturisers and toners will be more readily absorbed into your skin.

Whether you suffer from acne, fine lines and wrinkles, blackheads or blemishes, using microdermabrasion treatments in conjunction with your existing anti-aging skincare routine will improve the efficiency with which you combat fine line formation, treat any existing skincare conditions and prevent future breakouts.

Ideal for combating wrinkles caused by sun exposure

As explained on the Diet Health Club website; "Sun damage or damage to skin due to excessive exposure to the sun is one of the common causes that damage skin. Sun damage can accelerate skin ageing". Fortunately, microdermabrasion is one of the most effective skincare treatments in which you can invest to target the aging effects of prolonged skin exposure.

Studies have shown that microdermabrasion is particularly effective at reducing the fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, cheeks, forehead and around the mouth, which are caused by prolonged exposure to the sun's harmful UVA and UVB rays. This is due to the fact that microdermabrasion will gently support skin cell repair on the surface of your skin. Rather than exacerbating sun damaged skin, regular microdermabrasion treatments will gently restore your skin's natural moisture levels and support the growth of new skin cells that have not yet been damaged by the sun.

However, it is important that you wear plenty of sunscreen following a microdermabrasion treatment because your skin will be sensitive to sun damage for at least seven days following your treatment.

  3. I've had Microdermabrasion done monthly over the course of a year a few years back. I got it done for the benefits of speeding up the regeneration process to get rid of my acne scars, it helped a fair bit and I wish I could have managed to afford to continue doing it as it made such a major difference to my complexion! I've never looked into the anti-aging benefits of before so your post here has definitely filled me in on knowledge regarding it!

    1. It's good to know that this procedure also worked so nicely for you! To be honest, I've never tried it myself, but I'd definitely like to give it a try one day! It is pretty expensive, though. :(

  4. However, iced anti wrinkle cream takes an entirely different approach. Rather than increasing collagen, this cream freezes the skin and cuts off the areas nerve signals.
