How to Give Your Smile a Boost of Beauty

I don’t know about you, but when I’m meeting someone for the first time, my eyes always seem to be instantly drawn to their smile. When I looked into this, I found that many social studies have shown that the first place that most people look when meeting someone new is at their smile, who knew? Apparently, your smile can give away a lot about you, and allows people to form an opinion within 15 seconds of meeting someone knew.

It's probably better to get to know someone a little before forming an opinion on them based on their teeth. However, with the above in mind - that most people form opinions based on your teeth when first meeting you - if your smile lacks beauty, it’s time to change that. Here’s how to go about it:

Make an appointment to see your dentist

The first step to giving your teeth a beauty boost is to make an appointment to see your dentist. Obviously, if you have seen them recently - aka within the last three or four months, this isn’t necessary. However, if you haven’t been for a checkup in a while, it’s worth booking one in. That way, any problems, such as cavities, can be dealt with before they get worse. A cavity is much easier to hide than a missing tooth - a quick filling, and that’s about it, but a missing tooth is much harder to hide. So, if you’ve ever got a dental problem - or suspect that you do - go and get it seen to as soon as possible.

Deal with any cosmetic problems

The next step is to take into account any cosmetic issues that your teeth may have. For example, perhaps you never got braces as a child, and so, your teeth are slightly crooked. If this is the case, then you will need to make an appointment to see a specialist, to see what your options are for straightening your teeth. The good news is that it’s not just train track braces that are on offer now, there are designs that are nearly invisible that you could opt to have. So no one even needs to know that you’ve got braces. Or, say, for instance, your teeth are yellow-hued and stained, you might want to have them whitened. You could opt to have your teeth professionally whitened or you could consider going DIY with it. For instance, you can learn how to whiten teeth with baking soda here.

Wear the right lipstick shade

When it comes to how pretty your smile looks, the shade of lipstick that you wear can have an impact. So it’s important to be choosy about what tones you opt to wear. For instance, lipsticks that are yellow or orange based - aka pale pinks, corals, and orangey-reds - can make your teeth look more yellow than they are. While lipsticks that are red or berry-hued can make your teeth look whiter. So it’s important to be choosy about the lipstick that you wear, as it can impact your smile. Want to give your smile a beauty boost? All you need to do is take note of the tips and suggestions above.

  1. I'm always self-conscious about my smile, I definitely want to get my teeth whitened in the future but in the mean time I'll definitely be trying the baking soda trick and investing in some lipstick shades that make them look whiter! Thanks for the tips!
