7 Ways To Get Ourselves Ready For Summer

Now that the holidays are over, winter can seem quite depressing. It's cold and we spend our time wrapped up in thick jumpers and comfortable clothes. Not to mention, all the comfort food we tend to consume when the weather isn’t great outside. However, as we are fast approaching the springtime, we can start to notice a few changes in our days. The mornings are getting lighter and the evenings less dark.

January kick starts a new health regimen where we try and refrain from drinking too much and eating as much kale as possible. It got me thinking about some of the other ways we could get ourselves ready for the summer season too.

Who else longs for the heat on their skin and a chance to wear just one layer of clothing? I'm sure I am not alone. However, truth to be told, there is a fair bit of preparations needed to get ourselves ready for the summer months ahead, both physically and mentally. With that in mind, here are some things we could do to get our minds and bodies ready for the warmer weather.

1. Think about de-fuzzing

There are some major positives to winter. For example, we spend most of our time wrapped up in all of the layers, which means we don’t have to spend that much time worrying about hair removal when it comes to our legs and bodies. However, as spring is fast approaching there are going to be more and more opportunities to strip off those layers and start enjoying the warmer weather. This means we are going to have to pay real attention to de-fuzzing our bodies again.

Hair removal can be a bit of a chore and I understand that. There are many different options to consider. Shaving can be the easiest and most cost effective way of removing hair, but it would require you to do it more often. Then there is waxing which can offer a more long term solution and you can either choose to go to a salon or do it from the comfort of your own home. If you choose the latter, it might be worth taking a look to find out the best wax for hair removal to ensure you get the best results.

2. Exfoliate

It’s not just hair removal we need to think about when it comes to achieving that perfect summer body. Our skin also needs a bit of TLC when it comes to it's condition. Wrapping up in layers means your skin may have started to dry out a little. Making it feel rough to touch and out of condition. But you can get that glowing skin back by simply adding exfoliation to your routine. Using an exfoliator every time you shower or bathe is a great way to help your skin regenerate new skin cells.

3. Give your feet some love

Summer is the season where you are likely to wear sandals or flip-flops, however your feet have been cooped up in socks and boots for the last few months. That might mean your heels are cracking, your skin is dry and your nails might also need a coat of fresh nail polish. Spend some time giving yourself an at home pedicure and moisturise those feet every night before bed. You won’t believe the difference it will make!

4. Detox

You may have spent most of January on a health kick, but it’s always worth developing habits that you can stick to throughout the year. So it may be the perfect time for you to increase your water intake to be ready for the summer ahead. Water is nature's natural detox and it flushes your body of all the bad toxins that can build up. There are also some other benefits of drinking more water throughout the day. Things like improved skin tone and complexion, improved mood and better quality of sleep at night. It can be a real miracle worker and certainly a habit that will help you throughout the year. After all, with hotter weather approaching you also need to ensure you stay hydrated.

5. Keep that healthy diet going

Who says it is just January that you need to be healthy for? Why not try and take some of the diet changes through to the summer? This could be a great way to maintain your weight and feel better in your own skin. Our energy levels and how we look can have much to do with what we eat and what our diet is like. So if you have managed to refrain from alcohol throughout dry January then don’t go crazy at the beginning of February. Why not try and only drink alcoholic drinks at social events instead of home? If you have cut out junk food then why does it need to stop now? Save those items for a treat rather than adding them back into your everyday diet. Small changes can have a huge impact on how you look and feel.

6.Give yourself that summer glow

Not all of us are fortunate enough to jet off on a holiday before the spring or summer arrives, but that doesn't mean you can’t get that sunkissed glow. Applying a bit of self-tan or a gradual tanner can give you that healthy glow without the need for hours of sunbathing. It can also really boost your mood as you tend to look more healthy and ready for the day ahead.

7. Ditch the black

Now would be the perfect time to add some colour back into your wardrobe. While black is an awesome fashionable colour, sometimes you can feel brighter and happier if you add a bit more colour to your outfit. Even if it’s as simple as wearing a bright coloured lipstick. Small changes can make a huge difference and certainly put us in the mood for warmer days.

Hopefully, these tips will help you get yourself ready for the summer months ahead!
